The Salton Seafarers
We are a group of graduate students from the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management at the University of California, Santa Barbara. We hope that this project will start the process in reducing potential dust emissions and preventing health impacts to the surrounding areas of the Salton Sea.
Aside from spending countless hours working on our project together, we get together to do trivia at local breweries. During our first trivia attempt as a group, we achieved first place at Captain Fatty's Brewery, where our name is now written on their trivia hall of fame. We have also tied for second place for eco-trivia at Draughtmens Aleworks, demonstrating our expertise in a broad spectrum of environmental issues.

Luke EisenhardtData Manager
Luke studies pollution prevention and remediation at the Bren School of Environmental Science & Management with an emphasis in environmental data science. Before Bren, Luke worked at an environmental consulting firm, helping plaintiffs fight against polluters in environmental litigation cases. During the summer of 2017, Luke worked for Environmental Science Associates in Pasadena, performing air modeling, risk assessment, and noise monitoring. Beyond Luke's academic interests in modeling, data analysis, and environmental chemistry, Luke enjoys surfing in California and exploring national parks and monuments in the Southwest United States.
Justin BreckFinancial Manager
Justin has a Bachelor of Arts from the University of California, Davis, and a Graduate Certificate in Geographic Information Science from the University of North Dakota. As part of his studies, Justin mapped groundwater pollution risk in the Ogallala Aquifer in Western Nebraska. After graduation, Justin worked as the Operations Manager for the Bay-Friendly Coalition in Richmond, California, where he organized and implemented San Francisco Bay Area-wide education programs on sustainable water management in landscape design and maintenance. He is particularly interested in how regional water sharing and water trading reforms, along with strengthened state and federal partnerships, can make statewide water management more efficient.

Andrew Plantinga
Faculty Advisor | University of California, Santa Barbara
Andrew Plantinga has a PhD in Agricultural and Resource Economics from UC Berkeley and is currently a professor at the Bren School. His research focuses on the economics of land use, climate change, and forests. Particular emphasis is given to the development of methods for econometrically modeling land-use decisions, the analysis of environmental policies that affect private land-use decisions, and the modeling of land development pressures. A current project, funded by the National Science Foundation, involves the development of econometric land-use models to support an integrated analysis of climate change and water scarcity in the Willamette Basin of Oregon.
